Guide to local device keys
If you don't want to read all the background info on the local device keys, this page offers practical information only. If you want to know more about the background, please read the following page: SHCs & Devices in the local SmartHome
Requirements
Depending on the generation, your SHC must be updated to the following version in order to be able to work with local device keys:
- Classic SHC: 3.1.1111.0
- SHC 2.0: 1.2.44.498
If you have problems updating, you can find tips here: Updating the SHC
Backup the device keys of your included devices
To back up the device keys of your connected devices, please proceed as follows below:
- You need a USB stick formatted in FAT32 format, which is ideally smaller than 16GB (but larger also works)
- As soon as you plug this into your running (not to the switched-off or booting) SHC, the system will write a CSV file with the device keys of all connected RWE/innogy devices to this USB stick. This does not necessarily happen immediately and can sometimes take a few minutes
- If you now remove this USB stick and insert it into your PC, you will find a file DevicesKeysStorage.csv in the devices/ folder in which you find the device keys
- You can copy this file to your PC or other storage space for backup
Note: The First generation smoke detectors (WSD) communicate unencrypted and therefore do not require any device keys.
Inclusion of RWE/innogy devices
Until March 1st, 2024 your SHC will receive the device keys via the LIVISI Cloud. After that date, you have to proceed as follows when including devices:
- You need the DevicesKeysStorage.csv file, which also contains the corresponding device key. You can check this by opening the file in a text editor/Excel and looking for the serial number printed on the respective device.
- Copy the file to the devices/ directory (you may have to create this beforehand) on a USB stick formatted in FAT32 format, which is ideally smaller than 16GB (larger will also work)
- Plug the stick into your SHC and start the device search & -inclusion
- During inclusion, the SHC searches for the device key on the USB stick in order to secure communication with it.
- If the device key is not found or is corrupt, you will see an error message.
Prepare your replacement devices
If you stocked some spare SHC and/or If you have stocked some replacement devices for the period after March 1st, 2024 you must prepare them before this date as described below so that you can easily use them after the date:
Spare SHCs
- Connect the replacement SHCs to the Internet so that they can be updated to the above software version.
- With the classic SHC, you can check this by pressing the left button on the SHC - the version is then shown on the display, among other things
- The of the SHC 2.0 via the URL http://IP_adresse_des_SHCs/status or http://shcontroller01/status
- Note: If you operate several SHC in the network, you may have to increase the number at the end of the above URL (e.g. "shcontroller02").
- An USB update alone does not work for this, the replacement SHCs must be able to communicate with the LIVISI Cloud.
- As soon as the replacement SHCs have been updated to the version and you have received the decryption key, they can be put back on the shelf.
- We recommend to include at least one innogy/RWE device to test if everything is ok.
Replacement devices
- All replacement devices must be included (at least briefly) into an updated SHC.
- The SHC remembers the device keys of all devices in the updated SHC - the backup does not have to be carried out for each individual device.
- Make sure you also have a device key for each replacement device.
- If the serial number of your replacement device can be found in the file, the device keys is backed-up
Sharing/Receiving Devices
If after the 1st March, 2024
- If you take over or buy innogy/RWE devices from someone else, ask explicitly beforehand whether the device key is available.
- If you take over or buy a SHC from someone else, ask explicitly for the SHCs software version beforehand (see above)
In case you should pass on or sell innogy/RWE devices or SHCs of course, also update the SHCs in advance to a current software version and hand-over the device keys for innogy/RWE devices.
Working with device keys
In some cases do you want to edit the file with the device keys. Since the file is a is a normal CSV file, you can edit it in any text editor (e.g. Notepad++).
We only recommend Excel to a limited extent, since Excel tends to interpret the data and sometimes changes it - this can lead to defects device keys.
Merge multiple files into one file
You merge all device keys from all your SHCs in one file: copy all lines from line 2 and append these lines at the end of another file (in the example this would be below line 17)
Find and copy a specific one keys
You're looking for the key of a certain device because you want to give it to someone? The second column contains the serial number of the device, which is also printed on the device. The device key of the device with the serial number 921xxxxxxx55 is the entire line 9: MBT3SxxxxxxxxSAb,921xxxxxxx55,/wfxxxxxxxA==
Create a new file
You received devices from someone and don't have a file with device keys yourself? Then create a text file and add the header to the first line: SGTIN,SerialNo,Key. Then you copy each device key that you received to a separate, new line.
